About

You became a helper to support others.

But somewhere along the way, your nervous system started carrying more than it should.

You’re caring.
Attuned.
Fully committed to the people who rely on you.

But beneath the surface, there’s a quiet exhaustion that won’t lift.

You’ve tried the usual advice — rest more, take breaks, do something relaxing.

But bubble baths don’t undo years of emotional labor, constant attunement, and holding what was never yours to carry.

You’re not failing.
You were never taught how to care for your nervous system while caring for everyone else.

Hi, I'm Betsy.

A former therapist, turned EFT and somatic practitioner, and founder of The Grounded Helper.

I’ve spent over a decade supporting people through trauma and healing — first as a mental health therapist, now as a nervous system guide for highly sensitive helpers who care deeply and feel it all.

I know what it’s like to love helping people… and still feel like it’s slowly draining you.

In community mental health, I gave everything I had. Until I realized I was disappearing in the process. I was helping others stay regulated while quietly ignoring my own dysregulation.

An out-of-country move forced me to pause. And in that stillness, I finally listened to my body... and it had a lot to say.

That pause led me to somatic tools like EFT tapping, therapeutic yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness — not to fix myself, but to come back to myself.

And I realized: this is what helpers are missing.

Space.
Support.
Regulation.
Care.

I created this work so you don’t have to wait for burnout to listen to what your nervous system has been asking for all along.

Because the world needs helpers like you.
Just not at the cost of your wellbeing.

You don't need more theory.
You need nervous system care.

Because the real issue here?
It isn't you.

It’s the culture of self-sacrifice that expects helpers to be machines and keep giving endlessly—absorbing stress, emotion, and responsibility—while calling rest “optional” and depletion “normal.”

We deserve a different way forward.

My vision is a world where highly sensitive helpers model regulation instead of martyrdom.

Because a settled nervous system isn’t a luxury.
It’s the foundation that makes sustainable care possible.

Inside my work, you’ll find:

  • Grounded, research-informed practices for real-life stress
  • Somatic tools that actually work (no fluff, no overwhelm)
  • A judgment-free space to be human—tired, sensitive, capable, and deeply caring

Whether you’re early on or have been doing this for decades, we’ll focus on supporting your nervous system so you can keep showing up for others, without losing yourself in the process.

Here’s what I believe:

  • Your presence is your most powerful asset — and it deserves tending.

  • We can’t pour from an empty cup, no matter how committed we are.

  • Holding space for others is sacred, but it shouldn’t cost you your own well-being.

  • You already know enough. This is about feeling more, not proving more.

  • Care should be reciprocal. Helpers need spaces to be held, too.

A few official things, if you’re curious:

  • MA in Counseling Psychology, University of Denver

  • 8+ years in clinical practice (children, youth, families)

  • Certified in Therapeutic Yoga, EFT Tapping, Applied Mindfulness Facilitation, and Breathwork

  • Former community mental health therapist

  • Founder of The Grounded Helper

You can support others well and take care of yourself.

That’s not indulgent.
That’s sustainable.
